Its worth a try,, I have been in close contact for months with Hink, here and on Daily Strength, We email back and forth,, the poor guy has been a mess for many years.. 12 to be exact.. He was one of those that never habituated,, Now he finds a drug that stops the hell in his head,,, that does exite me.. maybe it WILL work as well for me... Nothing else does. But this is good because it force's you to help yourself. My doctor was on call in the emergency room when my wife and son took me to the emergency room and my alcohol level was .395. Doctor leaned over and said "John you should be dead". Sober up and be alcohol free and come see me. Finally kicked the alcohol and went to see him. He said I know next to nothing about severe tinnitus and he told me to do the research and he would research what I brought him and if he felt it was safe to try certain drugs he would prescribe them. He never liked Xanax so he would not prescribe it. He was more comfortable with Klonopin but he wanted to see me every 2 weeks. Long story short after a certain period of time I finally decided to try for disability retirement. Asked him if he would help and he said of course I will. My wife and this doctor are the only reason i'm here to type this. As far as the Pramipexole working it has changed my tinnitus. Today was a rather bad day but i'm having more good days than bad. Another big change is i don't wake up to screaming tinnitus like I use to. I have also cut down on my masking by 75%. That's a huge improvement for me. Doing nothing will never be an option for me. At this point it would be really difficult to say how well it’s working because I’ve been on it for so long. I’d have to go off for a few months and then back on again to really know. I suspect it’s not working as well as it used to work. At least it seems like my T has escalated a little in the last couple of months. I am really interested in hearing what Llilly has to say about long term effectiveness since I’m probably the long term Guinea pig for this med in regards to tinnitus. I’m aware that drugs can poop out after a year or so and I've been wondering about options. If I need to take a six month break to recharge the batteries so to speak, I can do that.

Posts: 9888 03/19/12 3:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	RequipXL is the next drug they use when pramipexole starts losing its effectiveness. What is good, though, is you can go back to pramipexole eventually because the same thing will happen with whatever other drug you use. Another tactic is to ask the pharmacist what compnay manufactures the generic pramipexole you are taking. Sometimes changing to a different "brand" of generic will work for a bit. Optimally you try for the generic made by the subsidiary of the original drug Mirapex because the amount of the active ingredient in a generic can vary more than in the brand name and the subsidiaries tend to be more accurate. Bob, with the level of drug you need to notice a change, I am not sure you can do two weeks on then two weeks off because it is a drug you have to achieve a certain level to get the therapeutic effect, then taper off like an antidepressant. Obviously I am not a doctor, but if I were trying this, I would follow the regimen exactly to see if it works first and then see what a doctor says about alternating two similar drugs. That is, can one take it only on days when tinnitus is bad (the way one might take Xanax, for example)? Or, is it like antidepressant drugs, which need to build up in the body over time?

Posts: 9888 03/19/12 8:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's like an anti-depressant in that it has to build up to a therapeutic level in your system before it becomes effective then you taper off to stop it. It isn't like a sleeping pill where you can take it tonight to sleep and then again three days from now and have the same result. @Reddirt. I've done research on this generic thing and the faster acting the drug, the more likely you'll notice a difference in the generics. The dosages of the active ingredients can vary by 10% (only 5% in brand) and sometimes it is the filler that makes it behave differently for some people. The company that manufactures the brand always has a subsidiary making the generic, too.

You have not quit working and you have an enjoyable hobby in your beautiful bead work. We can all learn from you.Thank you. I have taken Klonopin for over 8 yrs. as my psychiatrist said do you want to live life or not I choose to live life and will try my darnedest not to worry about taking it and what will happen to me down the road from taking it. So far I have stayed at the same dosage for over 6 years. God bless Tink

Posts: 1189 03/21/12 1:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just thought I would let you people know what the drug is doing for me. At 1-.25mg pill 3x per day it has evened out the tinnitus noise. I still very much hear it but it's very steady and easy to tolerate. No longer do I wake up with tinnitus so loud I have to drown it out with music or white noise. Also for the past 6 months I started getting some tinnitus in my left ear. Before that it was always in my right ear. Wonder what makes it shift to the other ear? Anyway the drug has taken away the tinnitus in my left ear. Now it's just in my right ear where it has been for 12 years and 5 months. So the drug has indeed changed my tinnitus.

A few weeks back was suicidal. Zero quality of life. No sex drive at all. Today no masking needed. Just got done going fishing for the first time in almost 2 years. AAaaand my wife say's you act like we just got married. I say it was a good idea. Best $5 I have ever spent.

All I asked is for it to take that sharp edge off make it steady and I could learn to tolerate it. I'm still on the low dose and I can't believe how short of time it took me tolerate it very well. Never expected for my tinnitus to 100% go away, i'm getting what I wanted. Like I said my tinnitus pattern has changed with this drug.
