I thought i could beat the Arthritis in my spine,and the arthritis travel to my neck and head,with much pain,as some know i can't not take any pain medication,as im a ex-drug addict... number two reasons for the leave....i was forgetting things ,like,my wife Mary mention to me in october of last year....why is the milk in the closet and i was putting the defrost meat back in the frezzer..i don't remember doing this... My walk is off balance and dizzy and lightheaded...it was time to see our doctor...the doctor sent me for CAT SCAN and a few other tests blood workup...they did find something was not normal with the cat scan... they made appointment with the Neurology Specialists...i had battle of testing...the results was ...Stage One of Alzheimer's Disease.. I want to leave you with this thought...someday there will be a cure for tinnitus..but i must deal what is going to happen to...My wife ask me also to leave the board...and i don't know how long i can remember replys here.....take care and i will miss everybody here i help in the past....it wasn't easy to post this..but i had too... Nick and my wonderful wife mary,who will stand by me in good times and bad times

I thought the warm weather in Vegas would have helped with the arthritis and made it a bit easier. I'm sad to hear of the alzheimer's disease. I hope that you have many good years left before it gets a little hard. Research on alzheimer's has come a long way and even diet and exercise can reduce the symptoms. Unfortunatly you might have to give up the meatloaf though. I hope that the balance problems can be minimised for you. I know what it's like courtesy of meniere's of course. I wish you and Mary all the best and thanks for your help and friendship over the years. Hopefully you drop in one day and tell us you are doing well. Take Care Greg

You habituated to the dreaded t, & as we all know, it's one hard nut to crack, so your experiences with tough situations may serve you well. But you have a wonderful wife and a wonderful warm and kind personality and that will not change. Alzheimers often moves very slowly and you still have time to enjoy and live and love. Contact the Alzheimer's Association. They have Support Groups for Early Alzheimers and you will be with people who are in your position.

Now it's your turn to concentrate on taking care of yourself. Staying physically and mentally active helps keep Alzheimer's down. This board might even give you some social stimulation, with its lively talk. See what the doctors think about using the Web.

Take a deep breath. Think about what is best. Don't leave here summarily. Mary, perhaps you might want to post here,youself because so many of us have enjoyed and cared about Nick. So many of us have laughed with him about his cooking stories and other jokes. And he has given so many others support. It's you, Mary, who might want to come here, where Nick is beloved, and talk about him with us. Perhaps for a while,you might post together. It might help him and you. Think about it. Whether it was a good-natured joke about her putting ketchup in her meat loaf, or about your family, it's obvious how much they mean to you. I can't recall one time, through all the years on this board, a negative word from you toward anyone. You've been constant with your invaluable support, and such a lot of fun to interact with on OT, through the years. I want to thank you, personally, for your candor, as it's so important for all of us to be aware that Alzheimer's could one day be anyone's reality. To you, Mary and your family .. strength. BTW my mom has lived with us for 2 years with same diagnosis but further along and I would like you to know she has had a very good quality of life and enjoys each day very much despite some memory issues.....she is positive and goes out several times per week at 86 years old and very social and sparkly and we are pleased to be able to care for her and when she speaks of certain events or people, I am able to realize precisely what she is referring to and so it seems good. One thing I would advise is to invite your wife to join a Family Caregiver Support Group or start one. We use Volunteers of America for a day experience for mom several days a week and they were happy to sponsor a group when I suggested this, and we call it Roadmaps for Families and we gather once a month with wine and snacks, about 20 people attend now, and we laugh and share and help, and we have had speakers come in for the one hour meeting, a lawyer, a speech pathologist, a geriatric nurse, a care giver from an agency, and so on. Every other time we just meet and talk and share, and it has been a very good experience. The VOA keep at eye on our loved ones while we meet, 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Sending warm regard your way... No joke intended, because I was diagnosed with cognitive impairment many years ago which the psych said was 'not organic' and due to depression. I knew better. I've always had a memory which is 'broad and shallow' rather than 'deep and specific'. When I was 19 years old I parked my car in town and caught the bus home, forgetting I'd even taken the car. I'll be 49 in August. I just wanted to urgently say this to you: don't leave. Stay in touch. The worst thing in the world you can do is shut yourself off from other people and interaction. Sorry if I'm sticking my snout in where it's unwelcome, but I don't accept the idea of withdrawal. Stay engaged. PM me if you like. Loop
