They said that it has "almost all the same information as the previous book". Is it true? Anyone compared the two? "Tinnitus Treatment Toolbox" by J.L. While Jan Mayes's book is certainly a very nice addition, it is in no way comparable to the Henry/Wilson book. [Also, just for clarification, ATA never printed the Henry/Wilson book. The copyright is held by the publisher, Allyn & Bacon.] I personally believe that ATA could do the tinnitus community a great service by securing the copyright to the Henry/Wilson book and reprinting it. I made that suggestion several years ago and got nowhere with it. smn

One of the best things someone with tinnitus can do, is to acquire a library of decent written material, and spend time studyrng it. Even if you must obtain a medical dictionary and go with one sentence at a time. In addition, dropping into PUB MED site (just google PUB MED) once every couple months and using search word tinnitus, you can acquire and study the very latest published research. I realize this is probably not for everyone, but there is value in really educating yourself about the knowns and 'unknowns'. Knowledge is surely a kind of power. Once in a while, used items pop up on Amazon.com, too. Or other sites, of course. DrJ

For all the $$$$ that folks flush down the toilet buying ginkgo and all that other worthless %#%!, a couple of hundred bucks (or considerably less) on two valuable resources such as these would seem like a no-brainer. smn

Posts: 3116 05/15/12 7:09 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just flipped through the Mayes book and the one by McKenna again quickly. They're both quite good. So's Jack Vernon's book. But if a tinnitus sufferer wanted to know the book that (at least in my opinion) would be the very best one to get in terms of a path towards the achievement of meaningful relief, I still say that Tinnitus - A Self-Management Guide for the Ringing in Your Ears by Jane Henry and Peter Wilson would be the hands-down winner. Get it. Read it slowly. Do all the exercises carefully exactly as instructed. And repeat the process in a few weeks. I do not know of a single person who has gone through that process and not benefitted from it. smn

Three of them cost $35.00. rob x 2 on edit: As a side note, Richard Hallam was the first author to apply some basic tenets of cognitive behavioral therapy to tinnitus management. His book, Living with Tinnitus, was published in 1989. A number of copies are available on Amazon. Henry and Wilson wrote Psychological Management of Tinnitus: A Cognitive Behavioral Approach in 2001 to help psychologists treat tinnitus patients. Tinnitus: A Self-Management Guide for the Ringing in Your Ears, published the following year, was written for individuals with tinnitus. Living with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis (2010) by McKenna, Baguley and McFerran is another worthy addition to the field and a bunch of new copies are available from Amazon for very little money. I've already asked Pearson about this, and they are not interested in neither reprinting or making a Kindle version. The book is old by today's standards, and it has many forms and figures. I believe it would require a significant amount of work for them to make the Kindle version. It would also be a challenge to make it look good on the classic Kindle. It only supports free-flow text and pictures. The book also asks you to make many copies of particular forms in order to do the exercises. I don't know how that would work for the Kindle version. Perhaps these forms should be made available for download separately. There's a high chance that this book will come out for free in a PDF format soon, which will look great on the new ipad and maybe other readers that can read PDF, including normal PCs.
