Hi all,
I was a passerby on this board for a few months early this year, and just wanted to post a follow-up for the sake of anyone searching this forum or who might be going through what I did. If you want to read my full story, just search the forums, but basically, I went to a nightclub back in January of this year, and was standing right up next to a speaker without realizing it. I suffered from torturous tinnitus, which became reactive as well, for months after. I was pretty much suicidal. Well, here it is almost 4 months later, and the tinnitus has faded away and is now completely gone! The only thing that I did consistently that perhaps helped based on what other people have been saying, is avoiding all loud noises and places, going to the gym regularly, and playing music at a moderate volume all night long every single night while I slept. I also did a lot of same tone tinnitus treatment along with the music I listened to at night to cause residual inhibition.
I have since learned my lesson and have made myself a promise to stay away from all loud venues. This past week I went to a large tent party and had to leave early because the band was too loud. Tonight I had to avoid a good friend's bachelor party. I put up with the funny looks I get, vacuum with 30+db NRR earmuffs, and plug my ears with my fingers whenever I'm around loud sounds. It has been difficult, depressing, and socially isolating, but getting permanent tinnitus would be suicide/a death sentence for me. I'm pretty sure my father had tinnitus as well, so I may be genetically predisposed. But, I'm thankful to have been warned, and I'm going to do whatever I can to avoid this as long as possible. I feel for everyone on here, and wish for a cure for you all! I will update this if anything changes.
