I have been reading posts on this message board, so it hasn't escaped my notice that many posters claim they have horrific tinnitus. Of course every individual's description of their tinnitus is subjective- what one person considers severe, another person might describe it as moderate. When measured against the normal volume on a television set, how loud is your tinnitus? Can you still hear what people on T.V. are saying? Are you habituated to tinnitus even if it is the only thing you can hear? My own tinnitus varies considerably in volume. Today, I can detect only the faintest pulse in my ear. On a bad day, it competes with the normal volume on T.V. for my attention, and if I am having a conversation with someone I might have to say to them a few times, "Can you repeat that?" Since I have habituated to tinnitus a bit (I am no longer distressed by the noise in my ear, I just find it a mighty annoyance), the volume of my tinnitus on a bad day doesn't seem as loud as before.
