Posts: 345 01/30/07 1:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was reading on Wikipedia about serotonin and they said that the symptoms of low serotonin can include tinnitus. Could this be why people who get on anti-depressants report less T,because of higher serotonin levels?

Posts: 77 01/30/07 2:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I believe there have been some reports concluding this connection between low serotonin and tinnitus. But also I've heard that some anti-depressants can be ototoxic and therefore actually cause tinnitus (possibly temporary). I've never taken anti-depressants, so I'm in no way an expert on this subject.

Posts: 33 01/30/07 2:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If you can show me one independant of drug companies study that shows scientifically that a person has low serotonin or any other neurotransmitter ill eat my hat. Its all a theory and has never been proven. Even if this was somehow proven which it isnt, perhaps low serotonin is cause by a reaction to social circumstances by a way we percieve them. Change this perception and you feel better. But that takes time, costs a lot more and generates few profits. Dont get me wrong, im not anti drug but im also well enough informed and seen too much from people i see to believe anything thats published about the latest wonder drug.

Over the years I've been reading this board, there have been many, many cases where T kicked in while a person was suffering from some level of depression, feeling low, recuperating from illness etc.

Posts: 1229 01/30/07 6:34 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've heard several times in the last year it's possible to check a persons level of Neurotransmitters by looking at the metabolites in the urine. This seems hard to believe..... My PCP says its impossible yet I heard an MD on talk radio several months ago talking about just this subject. If this technology is becoming available I suspect insurance companies and doctors would then become legally bound to have the tests run before prescribing any Antidepressant. If not it would be like prescribing Insulin without running a Glucose or Hemoglobin A1c test. Maybe someone in the Pharmaceutical Business could shed some light on this?

Posts: 33 01/31/07 12:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My depression has funniliy enough gone. Weird but t has forced me out my shell and into a wonderfull world i want to enjoy. My T hasnt gone of course but, my ability to deal with it has much improved no matter what it sounds like. As each day passes it plays a lesser part in my life. Of course i wish i didnt have it but life goes on. If i got rid of the t id probably celebrate then get run over. Bugger. Im so unlucky.lol

Now I'm not on them and T has become a problem...I've heard that depression/lack of serotonin or whatever might mean the brain loses its ability to filter out things that it should be filtering out.
