After skimming just this board, I had made a list of possible treatments for tinnitus that have been mentioned here in the last few months. (I have left out TRT because half the bandwidth on the Internet consists of that debate. I'm interested in the "other" treatments) When I originally posted "Just Curious" on 12/14/02, there were close to 1,000 "views". Out of the entire list, there was 1 positive comment regarding the Hisonic machine, 1 positive comment regarding masking, 6 "no change" comments concerning the various vitamins, and one whose T was not affected by Bio Ear or lidocaine. I am still curious why out of 1.000 people, no one had a lot of positive things to say about any of the items on the list. (Actually, I have a strong opinion why, but I'll leave that for a later thread !!) I have reproduced the list, and have added a few more treatments that have recently been discussed. After looking over the list, please see questions below.. For example, Gamma Knife Therapy, while being done for such things as acustic neuromas, is not used for idiopathic tinnitus at all. There has been some suggestions that with improvements in technology (SPECT and GRK) that once the location of tinnitus is pinpointed in the brain those selected nerve pathways could be cut using the GRK. But, that is theoretical now. As for the rest of it, I have not heard of "Brain Lightening." What is that? Laser therapy is also difficult to obtain. Until recently there has been no place in the U.S. performing this treatment. It has been done a while in Germany. (For some reason, Germany seem to be the home of a great deal of tinnitus research and treatments. Do Germans suffer from tinnitus more than other Europeans? Ok, answer to my question. It just has more people than most). Most people on this board are from the U.S., so that might explain why no one has commented on that treatment modality. Plus, I'd imagine that if someone got genuine relief from tinnitus the time they spent on a tinnitus message board would drop very rapidly and very far. Its only natural. They want to get on with their lives free of T like the rest of us wish we could. I've been reading non-stop on tinnitus treatments for four months and haven't heard of half this stuff.

Needs the addition of "sound enrichment therapy," however-- which is the single most effective treatment of all, judging by the responses of our members. A little white noise takes many of us a long way towards relief. In addition to the use of sound generators, I had very good luck with Klonopin in the early stages. Dirkh

I didn't hold out much hope to be honest. I saw a well-respected practitioner (who works one day a week at a cancer hospital in London - no she doesn't cure the patients but she uses acupuncture to help them deal with pain, etc...) She was honest and said she had never treated anyone for T before but she would do all she could to try and help. Well, I had treatment for a few months - the T did NOT improve - but the one thing that the acupuncture did was it REALLY helped me sleep. I don't know how it did this as I didn't even enjoy having needles stuck in me, but it seemed to induce deep relaxation. (Of course, there are lots of other techniques that can be used to aid good sleep.) Guess I'm saying it helped in a roundabout way. Sleep restored - feel better the next day - increased ability to deal with T and stress it caused!

I really hoped we'd have a few dozen people say that something on the above list helped. I even added a few since the original post.

I actually posted something called need explanation of different sound theapies. If we could put this into a excel spread sheet that would be grea and keep adding or revising.
