Hi Michael, I have a list if meds and the mark up % by different pharmacies if you're interested. The mark up is HUGE!
I can't say my doc has recommended many of the list to me since my T started from getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer, an accident for real. I had a little before from my hearing loss doc says missing khz hiss. I wanted to ask about some of the comments in regard to the bio feed back and yoga and holistic methods acupunture and such. Don't they all just treat the mental state of the person and allow them to better deal with the T? I don't know of anyone who has been cured by these, but they just help one to disperse the focus the T becomes. Do you know if that is true? Add ice packs or did I miss that? I pack my head in ice packs when the headaches and T get bad. They help alot. Got this cool one that straps around the head its great! I use a one of the relaxation methods, which allows me to distract myself from the T. It's still there, waiting for the noisey quiet. I will live my life, not the screaming, spittle dribbling one T wants me to have, or the one the docs do who want to drug us into silence. My drug of choice, caffeine, method of uptake, coffee. can I get this in an IV?
The list does prove one thing I've already said, the number of "cures" far acceeds the number for causes of T. |

Herbal concoction, went and seen a Chinese herbalist, a witch doctor, health food shops remedies and pills I have tried over time.
Some things did help for pain and relaxing but not for my T level. Plus I have tried a lot on the list, nothing I could say I would recommend for relief other than maybe anti-depressant when first learning to cope with T. |

Anybody heard of this? Hasn't brought me any relief yet. I'm really frustrated, and it doesn't matter that I'm not the only one. Now I've got to try to find a doctor, and they're probably snake oil salesmen, too!!! |

I have tried:
Ginko Biloba - Did nothing for me Tone (A swedish herb pill) - Did nothing for me Acupunture (combined with naprapathy) - Experienced some minor changes Niacin - Sometimes the T seems to ease a little bit when I take this. This must be combined with multivitamins/merals to avoid imbalance. Laser - Big wins. Have become about 70% better after 18 months of LLLT, using Dr Wildens instructions. |

I am currently in week 5 of Neuromonics treatment, so it is too soon to tell you results. I was directed to use this by the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles.
One thing I can tell you is that while I wear the device it is very soothing and I kinda "forget" bout it! Also, I am sleeping better than I was when
I first got T. But I was also very panicked at the time because I didn't know what it was!!! So if anyone's interested I'll keep you informed.
It's extrememly expensive, and I don't think my Ins. is going to cover it, but I don't care.

Does chicken poo count I can give a discount since i can get a truckload in about a week. anyone interested? I think it smells as bad a pigeon poo, but I won;t
argue with ya.
Listen I have had T for 43 years, there is no cure, so stop wasting your life with snake oil promises. Yes one or more of these can help a little maybe or maybe not. Stop wasting your time and money and get on with your life. I am not trying to burst anyones bubble but how long have you been looking for the cure? If there is a cure don't you think the American Tinnitus Association would announce it ? there may be some fortunate slob out there that just may have gotten it and was lucky to get rid of it because he didn't have it that long. Has anyone ever heard anyone that had it more than a year or two and found a miraculous cure? I don't think so. Please don't torture yourslef hoping for something that will never be. I spent 20 years of my life seeking the illusive cure and it got me nowhere, except a divorse and the lose of my entire family. Embrace the life and family you have and remember that there are many people out ther that are far worse off than us. God bless you all, I pray for all of us to rid ourselves of this torture. LeslieCH, I also am seeing a doctor at the House ear clinic in LA. MY tinnitus started suddenly 7 weeks ago, and it has been hell. My right ear felt blocked right at the time the t started, and now the t is like high pitched "head noise". Does House provide the neuromonics device? How long do you have to wear it? I'd be interested to know more...all the best |

SOCAlRoseGal:
Yes, the House Clinic does provide it. It's very expensive, and your insurance company won't pay for it. Well I have completed the 6 months of Neuromonics, and I have to say the first 2 months I did notice my levels were a bit down, and I was dealing with life much better. But I was primarily using it as a masker. Then they remove the "shower" sound and you listen about 50/50 w/hearing your T. I followed all the instructions to the letter. I listened every day for 2-4 hours, sometimes more. I didn't go to my final session, as I am a bit disappointed in the final outcome. I really had my hopes up in the beginning, but over the last 2 months I've noticed no progress. I have to say they never offered "cure", but said it would improve my quality of life, which I suppose with Xanax it did do that. But I still hear it every minute of every day. It feels most days a bit lower than in the beginning. But I still have very bad moments, and that's when I take a Xanax. I do sleep better than I did, but never through the night unless I consume lots of wine (which lowers the sound a lot, but probably killing my liver!) I was also told by people on line that it can take a year. I literally can't listen to it anymore. It makes it spike. The reason I could not go to my last appointment is because just going to that place reminds of suicide, and I couldn't goo there even one more time. Lots of other places provide neuromonics. You don't have to go to that Hell Hole to get it, and I lived in that neighborhood once so I know! Right now I am trying Kevin Hogan's self hypno cd's. I don't know if they'll work but I likes his book a lot, and the cd's are very realaxing. Good Luck. |

Thank you peterg. I haven't added any for many months. Do you think the snake oil salesman have turned their attention elsewhere? I can't wait for the day that we add something to the list, and it works ! But I know there will not be a magic pill for all of us. I would like to take a moment and thank the admins for pinning this thread. It started many years ago as a: "I'm just curious......" type of thread. I hope it assists those that are considering trying any of these items. I also hope that if anything DOES work for anyone, they post the product and their story !! Michael |

Dear Friends,
Be aware about present "Neramexane" phase III trial, in Europe, about 7 countries are cooperating in this final test of "Merz laboratory" Tinnitus drug. I am one of the more then 1200 volunteers (I am in Portugal). However, I am just in second week (and I can have the placebo), but if I stay in the present lower level noise (I had a recently sound trauma, the second in my life) I start to believe that is the drug working. I have a high-pitched 6 kHz with 20 dB SL! Intolerable! Of course, this medicine perhaps do not work for everybody, but it is design for T, as a derivation of Memantine, but looks promising for T effective relief. Another Germ am drug, AM-101, looks also very hopeful, being a direct ear intra-tympanic injection. Cochlear implantation has recently reached extraordinary results, at France. Looks like Europe go head in T investigation! I would like some discussion about the first result of this trial, mainly from those that are in the experimentation, as volunteers. The best for all! |

I think meditation helps me supressing severe tinitus to a more bearable (or even much better) state. I can't claim for 100%, but I think it's hard to
claim about anything 100%. Still I see some positive changes after several hours after meditating if I meditate for at least 20 minutes. I have some experience
meditating, so I know how to do it correctly (breathing techniques, asanas). Meditation changes both my mind state, making me calm even with a severe tinnitus,
and it does change the tinnitus itself, as it becomes not as pain and less concrete (calmer). I will further explore it, going beyond 20 minutes. So count one
opinion for meditation as valid. The effect is pretty stable, I can't claim for how much long it lasts. I believe it lasts longer the longer you meditate.
It's not just about calming your mind, as "pain" feeling goes away, as well as the sound of tinnitus reduces. It also helps me not to breakdown
emotionally. I guess people take antidepressants and I think meditation has a similar effect, but natural one. I don't know what would I do wihout it.
It's a holy grail for me in such tough moments.

Iv used the tinnitus maskers from tinnitusmasker.com, and I found them
to be really useful in helping my tinnitus especially at night time. I found that if I could sleep well, then I would be less stressed the next day and I could
relax more and promote habituation quicker.
