Hi there,

I first joined this board back in mid 2003 when I developed severe intrusive right-sided tinnitus following a bad episode of viral labyrinthitis. I have not visited the board for maybe 2 years (?) but for the first year I visited this board almost daily for support. It warms my heart to see so many familiar names here that continue to offer advice, support and friendship to other sufferers. You guys are one in a million. I don't know if I could have got through it had it not been for the people here........

well, I just wanted to say there was no 'miracle cure' for me. The best healer, cliched as it sounds, was TIME. For anyone new to T, hang in there, be gentle with yourself and trust that for many people, it does and WILL get better. Whether that means the sound/sounds will get quieter, or you will simply be to handle it better depends. For me, the multiple tones eventually merged into one which made it infinitely easier to deal with. On the whole my T is much quieter and better behaved than it was image and little flare ups are short-lived and rarely have any emotional impact on me.

By the way, many people say stress makes T worse......I have never found this to be true for me.......I have experienced considerable personal stress in the last 2 years (unrelated to T) and it has had zero impact on my T. HOWEVER, I would say that if you are in the early stages of your T and you are stressed to the hilt because of it, then obviously it makes sense to take steps to lower your stress levels, as this will help you to cope much better with it.

Love and hugs,

Ruth
